Whatever things are pure, . . . if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. — Philippians 4:8

It matters what we think about since our thoughts and feelings are reflected in the things we say and do. According to the Bible, "For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks" (Matt. 12:34). Once set in the mind, a bad thought could suddenly manifest. If we let sinful thoughts rule our brains, our character will deteriorate.

Refuse to focus on any wicked thoughts that come to mind. Say a verse from the Bible, a hymn, or a prayer. You will progressively bring "every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ" (2 Corinthians 10:5) with God's assistance.

Be mindful of your words in public and your thoughts in private. God, test me; let my heart be known; let my innermost thoughts be known.
I humbly ask for your assistance in guarding my thoughts today as I try to avoid sinning.
