The soul might be caught in strong currents of compromise in life as well and be carried to its doom. Most of the time, spiritual straying happens slowly and without notice. When we no longer possess the steadfast resistance to evil and the intense longing for truth that we previously possessed, we know it has happened.
Paul, the apostle, wanted to make sure that Timothy's clients wouldn't experience this. He exhorted him to remain steadfast in imparting to others the knowledge they required so they wouldn't wander from their fidelity to Christ and cause their faith to be lost.
Today, for every professed Christian who is driven away from the cause of Christ by a vicious act of evil, a hundred more steadily stray from God's truth, consistent prayer, and a life of faith.
To avoid getting lost in a drift, we must pay close attention to what we already know about Christ.
