100 pilot whales appeared to commit mass suicide by throwing themselves onto dry land on a lonely 3-mile stretch of Florida beach. It was yet another instance of the kind of damaging behaviour that baffles marine biologists.
These enormous monsters had followed the leader and beached themselves. To try to turn them around, people travelled great distances. A human barricade eventually developed between the whales and the shoreline.
However, after being pushed, tugged, and forced back into deeper water, many of the sea mammals repeated their death rush and surged once more onto the dry earth.
Something about people reminds me of those whales. We destroy ourselves because of our sinful nature.
For us to dwell in, the Creator has created a sea of knowledge. We seem fixated on the urge to leave the environment we were born for, though, behaving like unreasonable animals. We abandon the breadth of loving, aware submission to God in favour of the barren terrain of disobedience.
Even while we might think we'd never do something like that, we actually do it every time we sin. Let's believe what God says and embrace wisdom rather than loving death.
Hate knowledge, love death; love wisdom, adore God. Give us, Lord, Thy true wisdom, a feeling of righteous judgement in whatever we do, and as we daily walk with Thee, aid us in seeing Thy grace and truth.
