The tiny Caribbean island of Haiti was subject to an embargo after a military takeover there in 1991. For many Haitians, survival became a daily battle.
Despite being underweight and frail, those believers were able to live joyously because they kept their thoughts on the wealth and grandeur they would one day experience in heaven.
We could learn from our Haitian brothers and sisters who reside in one of the world's poorest nations because we have access to comfortable homes and plenty of food. We must adopt an eternal viewpoint when examining life.
I look forward to the day when all suffering, anguish, and misery are eradicated. The sorrow and wickedness in the world worry me. But I'm certain that those Haitian believers who frequently experienced hunger and sickness as well as fear of death had a higher sense of expectancy than I do.
Lord, even when things are going well, enable us to see life in the context of eternity.
