Two dogs that had been adopted as mascots helped 15 troops from a government commando unit in the eastern jungles of Sri Lanka. The soldiers were reportedly finishing a 10-mile walk when their dogs alerted them to danger. The dogs began to yelp and circle the area as they ran ahead towards a water hole where the unit planned to rest. The soldiers conducted a thorough search and discovered 12 hidden grenades connected to a taut wire trigger.
It's fascinating to consider those two jungle mascots whose noses could detect danger. Because they paid attention to those barking dogs, the soldiers avoided major harm or even death.
It's unsettling to realise, though, that occasionally we have a tendency to give more dependable defenders less respect and attention. How many times have we resented our parents' cautions or their suggestions? How many times have we become weary of a pastor's pleas or a fellow Christian's warning?
But what a loving and intelligent God we serve! He sends His messengers to warn us about hazards that could seriously impair our physical and spiritual well-being through whispers, cries, and occasionally howls.
Let's be prudent and pay attention to the cautions.
Listen to wise people if you want to become wise. Do I dislike being instructed what to do? Why? Who are some sages I could pick some advice from? When have I heeded a warning and averted a situation?
