My mum telling me Bible stories before bed is one of my favourite childhood memories. Many of them had a lasting impression on me, particularly the event in Samuel's life that is detailed in 1 Samuel 3. The young boy's response to God's appeal was, "Speak, for Your servant hears" (v. 10), and I can still hear my mother telling it.
Like Samuel, we must be prepared to pause in the midst of chaos in order to hear the word of the Lord. And if we routinely read and study the Bible in prayer, we have the chance to do so. You see, the Word is how the Holy Spirit of God speaks to us.
When was the last time you prayed to the Lord to open your heart to His Word? He desires to hear you say, "Speak, Lord, I'm listening."
