"I am answerable only to God" may be a veiled justification for not replying to anyone, including God!
In person, Paul challenged Peter about his hypocrisy (Gal. 2:11–14). What a shame for Peter! But he required the reprimand. Peter was aware that he couldn't trust his own assessment of himself based on his prior bragging and denial of Christ.
We all have to understand it at some point. Ask a Christian brother or sister to point out where you need to improve. This is one approach to make sure you're not the last one to know when you're sinning. They can assist in holding you responsible.
Don't act like a spiritual outlaw. Give yourself up.
The truth is spoken in love by true friends. Do we react defensively right away when we're criticised?
Is the advice we give others constructive and loving?
