We are able to hold on to that same hope because of the Holy Spirit. The resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead (1 Cor. 15:20) and the fact that He will one day return to this earth (1 Thess. 4:13–18) are two past and future events that give this hope its certainty. In the crucial verse for today (v. 14), Paul combined the two facts.
We must fight the urge to give up on life or to take morbid delight in whining when times are hard. Instead, we must continue to follow the Lord, repent of our sins, and look to the future (1 Cor. 15:33–34). Then we can rejoice in the knowledge that our traumatic experiences will no longer exist in the future.
Keep looking for Christ's second coming.
The knowledge that heaven is imminent is the greatest joy on earth. We will one day let go of this care-filled life on earth at death or the second coming of Christ, and those of us who have known and loved the Lord will share in His flawless likeness.
