God . . . gives us richly all things to enjoy. — 1 Timothy 6:17

The tempter is skilled in his trade. After all, he has been using it ever before the universe first existed. He actively encourages us to disobey God's laws or subtly persuades us to add to them in an effort to cause us to lose God's blessing. He is aware that either side of the road has a ditch where we could fall.

He first asserted that God didn't want Eve to appreciate any of the garden's trees during their conversation (Gen. 3:1). Eve defended God by stating that just the fruit from the middle tree was forbidden (vv. 2–3). She later clarified, however, that merely touching the tree would result in death (v. 3). However, God had made no mention of touching it.

Some of us strive to be stricter than God in an effort to defend Him. If we deviate from His commands, we think we are holier. As a result, we are deprived of even one piece of tainted fruit and miss out on the orchard. We shall not only refrain from touching that tree, but also any trees that resemble it or are located nearby. We displease God by doing this.

All of us have wonderful things from God to enjoy (1 Timothy 6:17). When we concentrate on what is forbidden and miss out on all of His favours, He is not happy. Not only is it wrong to not enjoy life, it is also sinful.

A heart of thanksgiving is the source of life's delight. What does it imply about enjoying life in these verses?
