Consider a night in ancient Israel. The family is gathered around a tiny fire that chases away the night chill and casts a lovely glow on their faces after the day's work is done and the dinner is over. Time for a story.
The children are told the "praises of the Lord" by their father and grandfather alternately (Psalm 78:4). They describe Abraham's travels. They discuss Isaac. When they talk about Jacob the Old, their voices are animated. They recall the great King David, Moses, Joshua, and Elijah. They describe their own family's history. They continuously pay attention to God's amazing deeds on behalf of His people.
Jewish men carried out their obligation to teach the next generation about the Lord in this manner. Their parents had told them, and their parents had told them.
Our kids must be taught about God. They must learn about His love, constancy, and grace from us. They must hear from us how He intervened in our lives to offer protection and provision.
Therefore, gather your children and grandchildren. Tell them about how God has impacted your life. Take care of your obligation, and let the kids know.
A youngster can best learn about God from a godly parent.
Spend some time today explaining to your kids or grandkids how you came to accept Jesus as your personal Saviour.
