An extremely ill Indian man attempted to get out of bed at two in the morning to use the loo but was unable to do so due to his weakness. The smell of his bed soon permeated the entire space. He was screamed at by other patients. The fact that the nurses had to clean up the mess made them angry. One struck him.
The following evening, the elderly guy made another attempt to stand up but failed. He started sobbing. Another patient, who was also frail, approached, scooped him up and brought him to the loo before returning him to his bed.
What a transformation occurred in that hospital ward!
What induced a mindset shift? The kind patient served as a perfect example of the Saviour, who "made Himself of no reputation" but instead assumed "the form of a bondservant" and "humbled Himself" (Phil. 2:7-8).
The same is required of us. Love speaks loudest when it isn't nice, which is occasionally the case.
