 Athletes participating in races is one of the Bible's most vivid depictions of the Christian life. We learn that winning requires discipline in First Corinthians 9:24–27. Hebrews 12:1-2 exhorts us to set aside anything that might stand in the way of our spiritual growth and to keep our eyes fixed on Christ. Furthermore, the apostle Paul stated in Philippians 3:12–13, "I press on, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead." 

Lord, help us to have patience while we speed through life. Help us to maintain discipline and abstain from bad behaviour instead of dwelling on our past mistakes.

The Bible uses the image of a racer as one of the most eloquent metaphors for the Christian life. Discipline is the secret of success, according to First Corinthians 9:24–27. We are urged to put aside all that might stand in the way of our spiritual growth and to keep our eyes fixed on Christ in Hebrews 12:1-2. In Philippians 3:12–13, the apostle Paul also stated, "I press on, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead."

Lord, help us to have endurance as we complete our life's race. Help us to be disciplined and to avoid following sinful practises rather than dwelling on previous mistakes.
