He calls His own sheep by name and leads them out. — John 10:3

Because He is so familiar with us, Jesus calls us by name. That is the impression John 10 gives us. An oriental shepherd would get to know each animal well after spending several years with the same flock. He would call them with names that were descriptive, such as "Brown-leg" or "Black-ear." They responded to his voice when he called them, too.

Similarly, when Jesus calls us to follow and obey Him, He also promises to provide the safety, direction, nutrition, and rest that we require at that particular point in our life. He understands us so well that His call is appropriate for our requirements. He calls us by our first names.

Christ knows your need, your identity, and your face; you are not just a number that computers can trace. The Lord is my shepherd, and I am blessed. He takes me down calm streams and through verdant pastures, allowing me to rest.
