The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.” — Psalm 14:1

But in reality, much more than 4% of the world's population act as if God doesn't exist. Although they don't openly reject His existence, they do so in their minds and actions. They resemble the foolish in Psalm 14 who willfully disobey God because they do not wish to change their self-centered behavior and start obeying Him.

Even those who acknowledge the miraculous expansion and survival of the church in nations where there has been horrendous persecution engage in this denial of God today. They reject the gospel and adhere to worldly ideals instead of seeing this as a compelling argument to take God seriously.

The strongest defense against behaving like an atheist is godliness. In order to live a life of purity, honesty, and faith in the goodness of the Lord, we who know Christ must cultivate a genuine sense of thanksgiving to the Lord for His salvation. We are to be salt and light in our world as practical Christians (Matthew 5:13–16). Jesus predicted that when this happens, we will inspire others to "glorify [our] Father in heaven" (v. 16).
