It is good for me to draw near to God; I have put my trust in the Lord God. — Psalm 73:28

Something from our history influences our ideas and behaviors today: a parent who sets high expectations for us that we can never meet; sexual abuse; having great talent in high school but failing to realize it after graduation; insecurity; growing up in a rural or impoverished location.

We also need to figure out where we're running from. Some people are like folks scrambling for the finest seats on a bus going to nowhere, competing for fleeting fame and money. Others make retirement plans, but they don't account for old age or death.

Asaph, the psalmist, was aware of his motivation. He had been uncertainly residing close to the area of sorrow. He also understood where and why he was running. In his song, he praised God, saying, "It is good for me to draw near to God;... that I may declare all Your works" (Ps. 73:28). In verse 24 he added, "You will lead me with Your counsel and then receive me to glory."

Have you identified the source of your flight? Do you know where you're running to, which is more crucial?

You won't lose sight of life's purpose if you keep your eyes fixed on the Lord. There is only one way for those seeking to understand the meaning of life to do so: by accepting the Lord as their Savior and making every effort to live for Him.
