History has been a lengthy, tragic saga filled with intentional cruelty, ruthless retaliation, and even horrifying torture. Even if you and I couldn't imagine approving the execution of innocent people, we still need to watch out for our hard hearts and pray for a spirit that is the exact antithesis of Stalin's wicked sadism. To follow Paul's instruction to "put away all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking from you, with all malice," we must pray for divine assistance. And treat one another with kindness, tenderness, and forgiveness, just as God pardoned you through Christ (Eph. 4:31–32).
If you still have any remaining hardheartedness in your life, ask Jesus to help you replace it with His tenderheartedness. And today, show someone compassion in the manner of Christ.
There will always be bitterness in the heart, even when retribution appears delicious. Lord, please take my life and make it entirely Thine. Also, please fill my small heart with Thy immense heavenly love.
I now give myself over to you, Lord; abide in me with all of my will, passion, self, and pride.
