I was reminded of the words of our Lord, "Do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul" (Matthew 10:28) as I read about Romanian Christians who stood for Christ in the face of incarceration, torture, and death. Christians who have been imprisoned or are suffering have found solace in the knowledge that God would rescue them at some point, either to return them to their loved ones on earth or to join the company of the saints who have already ascended to heaven via death.
Even while there is still widespread hostility toward Christianity, most people do not experience grave persecution. However, trials that try one's faith come to all Christians.
We can anticipate being disliked and attacked, just like believers throughout history have (John 15:18–19). We needn't worry, though. God has the final say. He will triumph over evil's powers and uphold His people. We are everyone able to utter the words, "The Lord is on my side; I will not fear" (Psalm 118:6).
