The fifth commandment states that God places a strong importance on family bonds throughout life. On the surface, it appears to be aimed solely at kids, but parents must set an example. Children learn to appreciate, respect, and follow their parents when they witness their love and respect for one another, feel their love and respect for them, and see their obedience to God. This precept to kids actually affects everyone.
How many of us have shown our parents the respect they deserve? And who of us as parents has been the best role model for our kids? Although we have breached this commandment, Jesus' death on the cross has taken away our guilt. He gives us the confidence to beg our parents and kids for forgiveness. Additionally, if they are deceased, we can demonstrate the sincerity of our repentance by fostering our other familial ties.
When we honor our parents, we honor our Father as well.
We learn to respect our parents by watching them. Children who respect their parents are acting in a way that pleases God; parents who are loving but firm are guiding their children in the correct path.
