I saw that wisdom excels folly as light excels darkness. — Ecclesiastes 2:13

Similar zeal for life can be found in some of the most enjoyable people. They are the life of the party thanks to their enjoyment of a good practical joke and a good laugh. But like the jackdaw, these upbeat people occasionally lack discernment. By acting foolishly and not being considerate of other people's feelings, they can "start fires" of annoyance in their own homes.

Let's take a cue from the rambunctious jackdaw and Ecclesiastes (2:13) author. Fun and games have their place, but a joke that makes fun of someone else is never humorous. Be careful to distinguish between innocently silly behavior and invigorating enjoyment.

A smart man's head prevents him from straying too far, like a pin. It's beneficial to smile, laugh, and play because happy hearts chase away the clouds; but, foolish behavior and careless enjoyment have the potential to bring sin and block out the sun.
